Toby Huddlestone B. 1980, Goole,England. Lives and works in London, UK.
Toby Huddlestone is an artist known for his considered, yet acerbic, interventions in both galleries and in the public sphere. Often using humour as a mechanism to interrogate regimes of power, his use of slapstick and satire among other comedic modes, highlights an interest in developing aesthetic forms that undermine cultural hierarchies. He has recently become increasingly fascinated by ideas of the spectacle/event and in particular how these ideas pertains to our wider understandings of culture in an increasingly mediated world.
Recent projects and exhibitions include: ON/Protest Apathy (2008), Bristol; In Focus Space,(2008), Newtown and; I’m so Bored of Viewing…. (2010), R O O M, London.
Huddlestone is currently curator at Crate Studio and Project Space in Margate, England. Past curated projects include: I AM COMEDY (2008), a multi-locational screening, residency, exhibition and event-based project and; UTSTÄLLRUMM (2007) at Plan 9, Bristol (2007). Huddlestone was also co-director and co-programmer of Plan 9 (2005-2008) and co-ordinated the re-interpretation of Curating Degree Zero (2005) at Spike Island, Bristol.
